What!? Another Community Service Project?

March 27, 2010
The project is now officially over and coming to a full end. BUT, alas our deeds to our community are not, or ever will be finished. We made some great friendships and succeeded in surpassing as the 1st Quikscience group in our entire school and to work as the most organized and systematic group our peers have ever seen. We will miss the good ole memories of hanging out and completing this project together in last 120 hours or 4 months.

Back at Quikscience Inc's Open House event on March 25, 2010, we were able to have the opportunity of actually seeing not only the finalists, but everyone's projects. There were many impressive projects and colorful poster boards and models at the event that tailored to look as if we were at a science fair. This gave us an opportunity to examine each team's projects and compare it to ours as well as just admiring the folders packed with memories that others have been fortuitous to have been through.
The food was great- they served hot off the grill w/ or w/o cheese chicken and hamburgers with chips, cookies, and plenty of condiments to stuff your sandwiches with. They also served delicious pasta and sweet potato salad. The tables we sat out were all outside and had recycled paper that we can draw on with crayons on which we plastered SOAR HIGH SCHOOL...TEAM OCEANITS-GW.

Back inside they made each team as they called their school stand up so they can honor each team for their efforts. At first it didn't go so well and we figured either they weren't here or they were too shy to stand up; but as one middle school group bravely stood up, the rest accordingly did so as well. Every now and then, they would announce the winners for 'Best Lesson Plan' or 'Best Community Service'.

At first we thought we weren't going to win much except for a couple of raffle prizes, we were astonished to find our we had won 'Best out of the Box Thinking' (for we had some crazy, but practical ideas going on here). We also received a check for $150 for our team that would hopefully go directly to our project next year. Even though we didn't win big or get were any luck of the raffle prizes, we were proud to have been in an experience that we have exceed so beautifully in that we would be called the "Oceanic Armies [of Our Last Generation]".

For our next project, it's a secret and we can't reveal much as were going over the blueprints of this ultra secret project. We plan to change our High School into something our community can look up to as well as the immediate home our education, AVC (Antelope Valley College).

The End of This Year's Challenge (2010)

March 6, 2010
The Edison and Quikscience Challenge is finally coming to an end. Even though we weren't able to replicate the Edison Challenge and were forced to drop, we think it was better to focus on one project and turn out a quality, not a quantity reproduction of our goals.

That said, our team will be going to a 1-day trip to Catalina! We have scheduled it away from our college and high school schedules because classes have been pretty hectic.

Also, we have been fortuitous to be one of the 3 teams to h...

Community Service

February 3, 2010
We need all SOAR students to consider doing a little community service on either Friday or Saturday, this week, by picking up litter and debris by and along the trails of the aqueduct starting from the corner of Avenue K, 55th Street W. We want to try to get as many people involved as possible in getting the awareness of water pollution, especially in storm run-offs leading to our aquatic ecosystems.

Everyone needs to have a minimum amount of community service before they leave SOAR, so why n...
